Where your
footage goes.
You are pointing our app at things you have not released yet. So this is not a list of the categories we may process — it is the route your recordings actually take, leg by leg, and where each one stops.

On the device
Your masters never leave, unless you move them.
When a phone records, the file is written to that phone’s own storage — or straight to an SSD if you have one plugged in. It is a normal QuickTime file. We do not read it, copy it, scan it, or send it anywhere on our own initiative.
Alongside it the app keeps the take’s slate data — scene, shot, take, roll, timecode, the marks that make angles line up — on the device, in the app’s own storage. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
On the set
Devices talk to each other, not through us.
When phones, iPads and a Mac join one set, they find each other over the local network and speak directly, device to device. There is no server in the middle and no internet connection required. A set in a basement with no signal works exactly like a set with fibre.
What crosses that link is the set’s working state: who is on it, the current scene and take, roll and cut, the shared clock, the screenplay and schedule you imported, and scene notes. Picture and sound stay on the device that recorded them until you send them somewhere.
On your Mac
The hub is your computer, not ours.
If you run the studio hub, finished takes offload to it over the set’s Wi-Fi and
land in a folder in your ~/Movies. That is a transfer between two machines
you own. Nothing about it reaches us, and the hub works with no account at all.
In the cloud
Only if you pair a device to an account.
SyncTake Cloud is opt-in. Until a device is paired to an account, the app never contacts us. Once it is paired, and only for the projects you choose, these things are stored on our infrastructure in the United States:
- Video and audio you upload, in private storage that is not publicly readable.
- Your screenplay, schedule, scene notes and take log for those projects.
- Your account — an identifier and an email address, handled by our sign-in provider.
- A record of which devices are paired, so you can revoke one you have lost.
It is stored so the app can do its job — moving your material between your own devices and giving you somewhere to review it. It is not used for anything else.
Never
Things this app does not do.
- No tracking. Nothing you do is linked to you across other companies’ apps or sites.
- No advertising, and nothing sold or shared with data brokers. Ever, including your footage.
- No third-party analytics or advertising code. There is no such code in the app at all — every part of it was written for this app.
- No training. Your recordings, scripts and notes are not used to train any model.
- No reading your files at rest. We cannot watch your rushes, and there is no feature that would let us.
Permissions
What the app asks for, and why.
- Camera — to record picture, and to read a set’s invite code.
- Microphone — to record sound, and the scratch track alongside picture.
- Local network — to find the other devices on the set. This is the one people most often decline, and the app cannot see a set without it.
- Photos — only when you choose to save a take to your photo library.
- Location — off unless you turn it on, and then only to write coordinates into your own video file’s metadata. It is not sent to us.
Each can be refused, and each can be withdrawn later in Settings.
Your control
Getting it back, and getting rid of it.
Your footage is already yours and already in your hands — on the device that shot it and on your own Mac. Nothing here is the only copy.
For anything in the cloud: deleting a clip removes it from every view immediately and it can be restored by asking, because a permanent delete of a master is the one genuinely irreversible act in this system and we would rather it be deliberate. Deleting a project deletes its files for real. To close your account and have everything erased, write to [email protected] from the address on it, and it will be done within 30 days.
If you are in the UK, EU, or a US state with a privacy law, you have rights to access, correct, export and delete what we hold. The same address is how you use them, and it costs nothing.
Children
Not built for under-13s.
SyncTake is a professional production tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child under 13. If you believe we have, write to us and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this changes, the date changes.
Any material change will be announced in the app and by email to account holders before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page is the version you are reading.
